When we arrived at the airport in Portland, Maine, I noticed something interesting in the gate area–a jigsaw puzzle table set up with a partially-completed puzzle on it and a sign inviting passengers to enjoy working on a puzzle while waiting for a flight. The gate area was crowded and lots of people were walking by the table without stopping even to look at the puzzle there, let alone work on it. I thought the puzzle idea was interesting and decided to take a photo of it. Several people noticed me taking a picture, stopped to see what I was interested in, and commented on what a delightful idea this was. This incident suggested to me that the best way to get someone to notice something is to get them to notice you noticing it. I was reminded of all the recent interest in Taylor Swift, and it made me think that it may be more about people taking an interest in all the people interested in Taylor Swift than being interested in Taylor Swift herself.
